CHAPTER 1
THE ELEVENTH COMMANDMENT
(1)  John 13:34-35
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you,
so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my
disciples, if you love one another."
(2)  Matthew 22:33-40
When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.
One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
Jesus replied:
" 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest
commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
CHAPTER 2
WHAT IS LOVE?
(1) 1 Corinthians 13:1-8
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am
only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of
prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a
faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give
all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have
not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it
is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily
angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres.
Love never fails.
(2)  Matthew 25:37-40
Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you
hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did
we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe
you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"
The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for
one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
(3) John 14:15-17
"If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the
Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth."
CHAPTER 3
RESPONSIBILITY
(1) Luke 10:30-37
A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into
the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went
away, leaving him half dead.
A priest happened to be going down the same
road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a
Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other
side.
But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he
saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds,
pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him
to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver
coins and gave them to the innkeeper. "Look after him," he said, "and
when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have."
Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who
fell into the hands of robbers? The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on
him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
************************
(2) Matthew 25:14-30
Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his
servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents
of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each
according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the
ground and hid his master's money.
After a long time the master of those servants returned and
settled accounts with them. The man who had received the five talents
brought the other five. "Master," he said, "you entrusted me with five
talents. See, I have gained five more."
His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You
have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many
things. Come and share your master's happiness!"
The man with the two talents also came. "Master," he said, "you
entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more."
His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You
have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many
things. Come and share your master's happiness!"
Then the man who had received the one talent came. "Master," he
said, "I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown
and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went
out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you."
His master replied, "You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I
harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so
that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten
talents. For everyone who has will be
given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even
what he has will be taken from him. And throw that worthless servant
outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of
teeth."
CHAPTER 6
OBEDIENCE OR CONSEQUENCES
(1) Psalms 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
all who follow his precepts have good understanding.
To him belongs eternal praise.
(2) Proverbs 13:24
He who spares the rod hates his son,
but he who loves
him is careful to discipline him.
CHAPTER 7
ON JUDGING OTHERS
(1) Matthew 7:15-16
"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit
you will recognize them.
(2) Matthew 7:1-2
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you
judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be
measured to you.
CHAPTER 8
SUBORDINATION AND OBEDIENCE
(1) Romans 13:1-5
Everyone must submit himself to the governing
authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has
established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against
what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on
themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for
those who do wrong.
Do you want to be free from fear of the one in
authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is
God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he
does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of
wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary
to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment
but also because of conscience.
CHAPTER 9
A GRATEFUL SERVANT’S DAILY DEVOTION
(1) Exodus 20:1-17
And God spoke all these words:
"I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of
Egypt of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form
of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters
below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your
neighbor."
(2) Matthew 6:32-33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these
things will be given to you as well.
CHAPTER 11
OTHER THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
C. PICKING UP TRASH
(1) 1 Peter 4:10-11
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so
that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be
the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
